Extremely rare Kalisz denarius with the name of the city in the legend, virtually unheard of on the collector's market.
Edmund Kopicki determines the degree of rarity at R8, with a note on 3 known pieces, including pieces from the Czapski and Zamoyski collections.
According to the aforementioned author of the catalog, the Kalisz denarius is the only representative of the municipal minting of the city of Kalisz.
It is worth mentioning that stamps much wider than the disks themselves were used to produce these coins.
Therefore, the obverse legends are usually preserved fragmentarily.
In the offered piece relatively good legibility, including, importantly, the full name of the city "KALIS".
A very nice piece in a beautiful multicolored patina, minor sheet flaws, slight brown tarnish.
For the best collections.
