A very interesting historical souvenir. An item practically unheard of in the trade!
The history of this eagle is described by Zawistowski as follows:
One of the elements of the gala uniform designed in 1916 was a parade helmet for the infantry of the Legions. To be worn on this new headgear, a series of eagles of much larger dimensions than the existing ones were produced in Vienna. [...] Eventually, the design of the helmet was rejected, and the only reminder of its concept remained the series of eagles produced.
One of the mustaches is missing (for comparison, in Banaszkiewicz's collection an ex with two preserved, while in Zawistowski's illustrated piece without preserved mustaches).
Description: eagle with wings raised, head heraldically to the right, sitting on an amazon shield with 15 nails nailed on the lower trail, resting its talons on the upper trail, with a shield with the letter S in the field;
Preservation condition of the object very good.
Brass, silvered and oxidized, dimensions 53 x 74 mm.
