A very nicely preserved, glossy piece.
Delicate satin patina on both sides enhancing the beauty of the coin.
This two-penny coin is a numismatic memento of the nuptials of the eldest (and at the date of the wedding she was only 14 years old) of Augustus III's daughters, Maria Amalia Christina Wettinovna, with the younger son of King Philip V Bourbon of Spain, Charles Bourbon (he was 22 springs old at the time), duke of Parma, later king of Naples and Sicily, and finally king of Spain (from 1759 to 1788), whose throne he assumed after the heirless death of his half-brother Ferdinand VI as Charles III.
In addition to two-penny coins, ducats and so-called guilders, i.e. coins with a face value of 2/3 of a thaler, were minted at the Dresden mint at the time ( the mintmaster's mark - the mining hook in this case must be attributed to Frederick William o Feral).
The two-penny coins have a catalog weight of 3.15 grams and a diameter of 23.5 mm.
Their obverse is decorated with a nine-line inscription, exhausting the entire surface of the coin, explaining the commemorative origin of the issue: CAROLI UTRIUSQUE SICILIAE REGIS ET MARIAE AMALIAE REGIAE POLONIAE PRINCIPIS SPON=SALIA DRESDE ANNO MDCCXXXVIII ("To CAROLI UTRIUSQUE SICILIAE REGIS ET MARIAE AMALIAE REGIAE POLONIAE PRINCIPIS SPON=SALIA DRESDE ANNO MDCCXXXVIII").
The reverse depicts two hearts folded under the royal crown on the altar (at the top "a hand from heaven"), surrounded by the inscription CORONAM - MERENTUR ("For the crown they deserve").
