Antoni Danilowicz served with the rank of platoon sergeant, then was a gamekeeper of the State Forests, residing in the forest settlement of Kierżak municipality of Huta district of Suwałki. During the battles for the borders he served in the 9th lancer regiment, took part in the battles against the Ukrainians near Lviv and against the Bolsheviks.
In addition to the Virtuti Militari Silver Cross, he was awarded the Star of Przemysl, the Army Medal and the Decade of Independence Medal. Before 1918, he was an activist of the Polish Military Organization in Suwalki.
According to his biography, Plut. Danilowicz was awarded the cross by General Haller.
Description of the deed according to the 1920 application:
On September 13, 1920, after crossing the Lug River, Corporal Danilovich was sent on a drive to the village of Oryszcze with orders to ruthlessly reach and investigate the enemy's positions and forces.
In view of the falling night, he leaves the patrol in front of the village and himself drives sideways into the center of the village, having overheard their conversations while being spotted by them, fires several shots and, shot from everywhere, breaks through to his own bringing detailed news.
Description of the deed from the 1921 application:
On September 13, 1920, when the regiment was pursuing the retreating enemy beyond the Luga River and was ordered to man the crossing on the other side, Corporal Danilovich is sent with a patrol to the right flank to investigate the situation and secure it. It was already complete darkness. Corporal Danilovich reaches the village of Oryszcze about 7 kilometers from the regiment, and not wanting to expose his men in the darkness, he goes alone to the center of the village, sneaks between the huts, reaches the headquarters of the enemy detachment, there overhears the content of the orders issued , and finally spotted by the guards, retreats under fire through the entire village to his own. He returns to the regiment, bringing important news about the deployment of enemy forces on our right wing and the intentions of the Bolsheviks as to the next day. Thanks to these reports, the regiment that night manned important positions on the Luga River.
