Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: VF
Reference: Kopicki 2 (R6), H.Cz.4810 (R6)

Legendary coin that adorns modern 10zl banknotes.

A very nice piece, the surface with a delicate luster.
Typical for issues of the period, slight undulations of the disc.

The first Polish coin minted by Mieszko I - this is how the piece was described until recently.
Recent research, however, attributes this denarius to Mieszko II Lambert, son of Boleslaw the Brave.
The type with risers at the crown (according to Kopicki, 21 pieces known), clearly rarer than the type without risers (36 pieces known).

Among the best collections!

obverse: dome of the temple, arches on the sides, in the rim the legend (MISICO)
reverse: straight cross topped with crosspieces, between its arms balls

silver, diameter 19 x 20 mm, weight 1.44 g.
