A very rare denarius "prince on horseback / fighting a lion" now believed to be an issue of Mieszko I the Platypus from the Racibórz mint.
Dated to the first half of his reign (1177-1190).
Formerly recognized as an issue of the sons of Wladyslaw the Exile (due to the iconography of the reverse derived from his coins), but also as an issue of the Piasts of Greater Poland (Wladyslaw Laskonogi or Odonic - due to the coincidence of the representation from the obverse with his seal).
One of the most beautiful pieces of this type on the auction market.
Exquisite art in a cabinet-like, extremely charming patina.
Sharp, plastic relief, luster, no signs of circulation.
Definitely recommended. For the best collections.
obverse: prince on horseback, with pennant, to the right, in the rim inscription
reverse: knight fighting a lion
