Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: XF
Reference: Stronczyński 37.a, Kopicki 38 (R4)

A beautiful piece with a charming patina, hiding a delicate yet vibrant mint luster.
Very nicely, centrally minted, with a slight deficiency, typical of this issue.

The type is classified in the group of the first Polish coins with the denomination - DENARIVS.
However, in the present piece, instead of the word DENARIVS, the rim bears the legend: BOLZLAVS (misaligned letters of the prince's name).

An interesting variation of the legend notation:
- on the obverse it begins with a cross in the form of the letter E, colons were used as punctuation marks in addition to the usual dots;
- on the reverse, it begins with a colon, and a horizontal colon was used as punctuation marks in addition to the usual dots.

Obverse: in the pearl border a prince in majesty, holding a sword and a hand in a gesture of greeting, in the outer border a legend
+-B:O:L-Z:L:Z[AV]S
Reverse: in the pearl rim a straight cross, between its arms spheres, in the outer rim the legend
:B-O-L-Z--L-AVS

Definitely recommended, even for specialized medieval coin collections.
