Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: UNC
Reference: RIC 293

An exquisite piece.

An interesting dated issue, being a return to the old rules that prevailed through most of Roman minting - putting years of office on coins.

Obverse: military bust of the emperor en face, in the rim the legend:
D N THEODOSI-VS-P-F-AVG;

Reverse: Constantinople seated on a throne to the left, holding a globe topped with a cross, surrounded by legend:
IMP.XXXXII-COS--XVII-P-P-, in section CONOB;

Gold, diameter 22mm, weight 4.5g, axis 6h.
